You always hear us say that painting is the easiest way to add value to your home. It’s inexpensive the impression of a fresh coat of paint can go such a long way. If you have been thinking about sprucing up around your home this Spring then listen up. We are here to make this chore you’re about to tackle a little bit easier.
Grab a pen and paper cause you are going to jot these tips down.
- Before painting window trim, wet some newspapers and “stick” them to the window. The newspaper will catch paint splatters. No newsprint? Try wetting white tissue paper (don’t use coloured tissue as it may run and ruin your project.
- Put a thick elastic band around the paint can – from top to bottom. Use the band to “wipe” the brush as you paint. This will keep the rim clean for “no mess” when you put the lid back on the can.
- Rub petroleum jelly on door handles and hinges before you paint a door. Any over painting can easily be wiped off.
Lastly, If you’re planning on painting over an old coat, it DOES matter what kind of paint it is. If you cover oil paint with latex (water based), it may peel and chip off. To find out if the painted surface is oil or latex, pour NON acetone based nail polish remover onto a cloth and rub it vigorously on the paint. Latex paint will come off, oil shouldn’t.
