- Go Ice Skating – Everyone who has ever gone ice skating can attest to how much fun it is. It’s also great exercise! You can also take the whole family out and teach the young ones how to skate. There are plenty of places throughout Barrie where you can go ice skating. In fact, there are even numerous drop-in skating rinks where you can go on a whim. These include the Allandale Recreation Centre, the Eastview Arena, the Holly Community Centre and the East Bayfield Community Centre.
- Go to Horseshoe Resort – If you go over to the Horseshoe Resort, you’ll find that they offer countless winter activities that you can participate in. Although known for its alpine skiing and cross-country skiing, you and the family can also go snow tubing, fat biking, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. If you have kids then they’ll be especially excited about the fact that they are home to the longest snow tubing hill in Ontario with five large chutes and two exciting drops. What’s great about the Horseshoe Resort is that you don’t have to be a guest to enjoy their activities.
- Attend Barrie Winterfest – Winterfest is an annual event held in Barrie that’s full of fun family-friendly activities. Named as one of the top 100 festivals and events in Ontario and held on February third and fourth, this year’s Winterfest will include ice sculptures, snow sculptures, walking tours, kite flying, lumberjack shows, curling, snowshoeing, an ice maze, mini golf, a bonfire warming zone, a mini tube slide, horse-drawn wagon rides and much more. There will also be plenty of food and merchandise vendors at the event as well.
- Go to a Barrie Colts Ice Hockey Game – Barrie is home to the city’s junior ice hockey team, the Barrie Colts. Not only is it a lot of fun to go cheer on an ice hockey game, especially in the midst of the thrilling atmosphere of the Barrie Molson Centre, but it’s also a fantastic way to check out some potential future professional NHL stars. Even if you don’t follow hockey, you’ll end up having a fantastic time. The season lasts through March and there are plenty of opportunities to purchase tickets to a home game at the Barrie Molson Centre. Tickets aren’t very expensive either!
